Ako Council is located in the Ako Sub-Division of the Donga Mantung Division, in the North West Region of Cameroon. Ako town is situated at the northern gateway of the region, bordering the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and lies approximately 249 km north-east of Bamenda via the Bamenda–Nkambe–Ako road. The council area is served mainly by the Nkambe–Ako–Abongshie road axis, which connects the municipality to other councils of Donga Mantung Division and facilitates cross-border trade with Nigeria.
